Wednesday January 1st at 11:30am I had my first actual contraction.
I told Jesse "I might be in the early stages of labor, but maybe not...
I was exactly 1 week past my due date and didn't want to get my hopes up until I KNEW it was labor
so we began tracking the contractions.
At first they were consistently inconsistent.
Meaning, I was having them regularly but they weren't consistent in how long they lasted.
Sahalie stayed the night with my parents the night before so she was already there.
We cleaned the house.
Jesse finally packed his hospital bag (haha) and then got our bags by the door ready to go.
The contractions became more consistent and a little more uncomfortable around 3:30pm.
By this point, I knew we would be having a baby soon♥
We paged my doctor, turned on Lost in Space on Netflix and waited for the time to pass.
I spent some time on the yoga ball and walking around.
Around 5pm we hadn't heard back from my doctor yet but my contractions were only 5 or so minutes apart so we drove to my parents house to see Sahalie before heading to the hospital.
The contractions were getting closer to being 4 minutes apart and I was still questioning if I was ready to go to the hospital or not because of how manageable the pain was. It defiantly hurt but if you know my birth story with Sahalie; it was NOTHING even comparable to where I was at 4 minutes apart with her.
My mom and Jesse encouraged me to go to the hospital to be checked. Worst case, they send me home, right?
We were only a couple minutes away from the hospital.
The contractions ramped up QUICKLY in the car on our way there.
We got into a room and I told the nurse right before she checked me that I wasn't sure if they would send me home for a bit longer or not.
After checking, she said "Oh, we are definitely having a baby tonight. You are just barely under 7cm dilated. Lets get you checked in."
I couldn't even believe I was that far along already. Again, I kept comparing my labor with Sahalie to this and I had been in labor for almost 2 days with her before I even got to 7cm...
Lets talk epidural.
I really wasn't sure what I was going to do this time around during labor.
I wanted to try another natural labor.
If you know me personally, you know I fall much more on the natural side of medicine.
However, after my labor with Sahalie, I had some pretty serious anxiety about labor again that I was trying to work through.
After I got to the hospital, and asking A TON of questions to the anesthesiologist;
I made the decision to get the epidural.
It allowed me to relax & not stress how this was going to go this time around.
I don't regret that decision for a second and now I know that my body actually can deliver without complications. Before this, I wasn't so sure.
It was also nice because after getting checked in, my parents brought Sahalie down to the
hospital and she was able to see us there.
We talked about how baby brother or sister was going to be here tomorrow
She was cuddling me and repeated what we said about baby coming :)
Fast forward to around 11pm, the nurse still hadn't heard from my doctor so she called
the on-call doc at my clinic and he came over from Riverbend hospital.
It turned out my doctor was sick that night so Dr. Bellar ended up delivering.
He got there just before midnight, checked me and said "you ready to have a baby" :)
BIGGEST SMILE EVER.
I began pushing just after 12:10am and 2 contractions. 3 pushes later, baby BOY was delivered at 12:15am.
Kai Kiyoshi Marion♥
Jesse told me he was a boy and I couldn't even believe it.
As the oldest of 3 girls in my family and 10+ girl cousins;
As the oldest of 3 girls in my family and 10+ girl cousins;
I said "what do I do with a boy!?" lol over the moon excited though!
Jesse's face was priceless as tears ran down his face.
Shhh.. I didn't tell you that if he asks ;)
I pulled him up onto my chest and snuggled my newest baby love the rest of the night.
Having a baby in the middle of the night is no joke.We didn't get to sleep until almost 5am.
Needless to say however, it was exactly how our baby boy was meant to enter the world
and I wouldn't have had it any other way.
