Pregnancy Journey

When I got pregnant I thought I was going to be so on top of writing blogs to document, at the minimum each trimester.... It is now December 2nd and we are two weeks away from Baby's due date and this is my first post. Haha. I guess I should get used to it with baby on the way.

First trimester was by far the hardest but even at that, it wasn't as bad as I know it could have been. We found out I was pregnant at almost 4 weeks along. I had little but not significant symptoms at that point so for the next two-three weeks, it was all just sinking in. I still felt like my normal self so to know I was pregnant was such a crazy feeling. Week 7 is where it all began to change with the dreaded morning sickness. I was so nauseous ALL DAY long until about 12 weeks. Thankfully I never actually threw up but I don't know what is worse.. I was unbelievably exhausted on top of it so for about 6 weeks I felt completely useless. I can't say how thankful I am for such a loving, husband who understood and pretty much took on all the house chores along with working everyday. Cravings. I had a hard time eating anything from being so nauseous but when I did want something it was always cheese pizza. It was so easy on my stomach and all I wanted. Terrible. I know. Haha. And as a previous coffee lover, I now couldn't stand the smell of it. It wasn't until week 14 that I finally felt like myself again.

I knew I needed to find a doctor pretty soon but with being somewhat new to the area, I had to do a bit of research to find who I wanted to go to. I knew from the beginning of finding out I was pregnant, that I wanted to have as natural of a birth as possible. I am not a fan of hospitals at all. There is a time and place for them but for me, having a baby is not one of them. With that said, I wanted to make sure I checked out ALL the options available to me to make the best educated decision I could for baby and myself. We toured the hospital, a few birth centers around town and considered a home birth. After some thought, we chose to go through Snohomish Midwives and have the baby at Puget Sound Birth Center in Kirkland, WA. I can't even say how happy both Jesse and I have been with that decision since it was made.

After a really rough first trimester, second was pure bliss. It was everything I could have imagined when people talk about enjoying pregnancy. I finally felt back to normal, had my energy back and was just starting to show slightly around 15 weeks. I remember being so excited about finally getting my bump ♥ Looking back, Jesse and I both laugh because compared to now, there was almost nothing there ;) Another highlight in second trimester was feeling baby move for the first time! I had been waiting to feel baby for so long. Other women would say they felt baby around 16 weeks and I was quickly moving past that with still no movement, which to a first time pregnant mama, was starting to scare me a little. I'll never forget the night I finally felt him/her (that's another thing- we chose to keep baby's gender a surprise)! We were laying in bed on July 24th at 10:57pm when I knew what I had just felt was the baby moving! There were a few times before that I had wondered and couldn't really tell but this time there was no doubt at all. I was 19 weeks and 2 days along.

Third trimester. I was a little nervous going into third tri because again, many woman told me first is terrible, second is amazing and third goes back to being terrible. After what I experienced in first trimester, I was in no way looking forward to feeling that way again. However, nothing really seemed to change from second tri. There was no big transition or change in how I felt. I still feel baby moving all the time and up until recently didn't feel any difference in my body aside from seeing the obvious growing baby bump.

Now, today we are exactly two weeks away from the due date and just over the last day or two I have started to feel more uncomfortable. Mornings are great but by the end of the day, my feet are tired and a tiny bit swollen, along with a little sciatic nerve pain in my lower back. Nothing terrible and for being this close to giving birth I cannot complain at all! It's actually a little exciting to me to start feeling these changes (even if they are uncomfortable) because it means baby is getting ready to make his or her grand arrival! Baby's room is all ready and I will be packing the birth center bags for myself, baby and daddy later today. The car seat is installed and other than a few little things I would like to get done, we are in the final stretch, just waiting for baby to get here♥

Overall, this pregnancy has been so fun and easy for me. I can't wait to finally see what baby looks like, if he's a boy or if she's a girl, hear his or her cry, feel our baby in my arms for the first time. I know this is going to change life as we know it, but we don't even have words for how excited and ready we are for this change ♥

Seaside, Oregon

Jesse and I took a mini vacay to the coast as our last trip before baby arrived.
We drove to Seaside, OR for a 3 night stay.

Our first night there, we checked into the hotel and then went to a fish house for dinner.
It was so fun and great food.

BUT... that night Jesse ended up getting a stomach bug. He was probably the sickest I have ever seen him :( So we ended up spending the rest of our trip in the hotel room. He was finally feeling a little better by day 3 when our trip was over.

So.. all that to say, we had a great first evening on the beach
and lots of cuddles and movies watched the rest of the time
