memorial weekend!
may 27th - 30th 2016
tuesday of the week before this weekend, our friends whitney and codey were thinking the same thing we were
"lets go camping!'
we know, we know.... it was very last minute and we've already learned the hard way
a couple different times that camping without a reservation
is nearly impossible.
ESPECIALLY on a holiday weekend.
so, we hoped on reserveamerica.com and just happened to book the very last camp spot
within washington state!
the weekend fun began friday morning!
bumping lake
saturday morning we went out in search of a good hike.
i had heard of goat peak and knew it had stunning views from the top
but it was also 10 miles and 3400ft elevation gain and we were looking
for something a bit shorter for that day
so instead we found goat creek trail
we looked it up online and it showed 3 miles roundtrip and relatively flat......
well...
about .5 miles into it, we knew we were not on the trail we had originally thought
the elevation gain we fast and not flat.
about 2.5 miles into it we passed some other hikers coming down and chatted with them.
apparently we ended up on a different goat creek trail than we had looked up and were on our way
up towards goat peak.
we decided to keep going for it and just make it to the top!
the views when we got there, words can't even describe.
it's moments like these that i really feel alive.
our bodies were not meant to just sit at a desk 8 hours a day.
check out more goat peak pictures here :)
after an amazing hike, we sat around the camp fire and made an amazing dinner
perfect for an amazing day ;)
we had a bit of rain but nothing we couldn't handle
my favorite part of camping is waking up early, making breakfast and sitting
next to the camp fire, drinking coffee
These fur babies love their Whitney :)
Sunday morning we went fishing on the lake
he's so freaking handsome ♥
totally in his element!
buddy and i trekked our way up the rock field behind where jesse and codey were fishing
backstory: a few weekends back we all went mushroom hunting and failed terrible haha.
now: walking back to the truck from fishing, codey found this beauty right off the side of the trail!
our excitement was out of this world lol
I realize how funny that sounds but really, you have no idea ;)
♥
after two nights of camping and one strenuous hike, he insisted he bathe somehow
even though it had to of been only 50 some degrees out, no sun and snow melt in the lake
he did it though :)
after a morning of fishing we went morel mushroom hunting!
that one codey found was enough inspiration to get us out again
it sounds silly but it was ridiculously FUN!
it was a very successful hunt this time!
sadie sue ♥
i realize you can buy these at the store BUT
the store bought ones are
1. expensive and
2. taste nothing compared to fresh right out of the dirt morels!
morel, veggie and alligator kabobs
another perfect day enjoying time with friends and activities we all love!
on our way home monday, it was a perfect blue bird day with stunning views of mount rainier!
i have said for years now that camping is refreshing for the soul and this trip
was exactly that!
so much needed.
until next time♥
