Cali Trip 2017
Jesse and I had planned a trip to Mexico over Memorial Weekend.
We just had to buy our planes tickets which we were planning on doing until we found out I was pregnant the week before.
Because of the Zeka virus we decided to cancel Mexico and plan for somewhere else.
The only stipulation was it had to be WARM!
I'm still not really sure how we came to this decision, but we ended up booking tickets for Palm Springs, CA.
Are you even from Oregon if you don't have a picture of the PDX carpet and your feet?
After landing in Palm Springs, we got our rental car and headed for LA area because I had planned a Disneyland day :)
Once we got there, we checked into our airbnb and then made a little surprise visit to Jesse's cousins who live in Huntington Beach, CA.
It was one of the highlights of our trip!
I absolutely adore these kiddos♥
The next day was Disneyland!
The Disney parade was a perfect way to end a fun day with my love
The next day we spent exploring some beaches
That night, we headed back to Palm Springs where we were <supposed> to spend the rest of our trip
I was 11 weeks pregnant when we went and as much as I want to write about how amazing Palm Springs is... I. Just. Can't.
It was 10 billion degrees out. Not even pool side sitting kinda weather.
The picture above was me trying to love sitting in the sun after swimming..
It was nice for the whole 10 minutes we could stand being in the direct sunlight.
It also probably didn't help that I was pregnant and just starting to get over my morning sickness.
Needless to say, we were not having the fun time we planned to have...
BUT
We were not about to let the trip go south just like that sooo...
A couple of OUR FAVORITE PEOPLE♥
Jesse and I met Paul and Denise on our honeymoon in Hawaii in 2015.
We were in the pool one night at our condo and they were sitting in the hot tub right next to the pool.
I remember Denise asking "Are you guys on your honeymoon?" with a big smile and we of course said "yes!" :)
We ended up getting it the hot tub with them and talking for a long time.
It turned out they were from San Luis Obispo, California and were celebrating their anniversary in Maui.
Before we went back to our condos that night,
Paul asked if they could take us out to dinner that week.
I remember Denise saying "They are on their honeymoon! They don't want to go to dinner with us." But I absolutely loved them already and told them that we would love to!
They took us to a restaurant that they had in Cali too- Cool Cats Cafe
It was one of their favorite places to eat back at home.
After we all left Hawaii, we agreed that we would have to meet up again someday.
Denise and I talked on the phone many times that year and still do to this day.
Soooo... Since we weren't enjoying Palm Springs, we looked up how far away they were from us.
I had been talking to Denise that week and she invited us to come stay with them the rest of our trip.
They were about 5 hours away from us which sounds far but when we compared how often we drive between our home in Washington and our family in Oregon, it wasn't even as long as that drive.
We hoped in the car the next day and began our journey for San Luis Obispo and boy am I glad we did!
Not only did we finally get to hang out with our friends again but we got to see how absolutely beautiful that area is.
And let me tell you, it was still warm but SOOO much cooler than Palm Springs.
The perfect weather.
It felt like a good mixture of Oregon (all the green & a little cooler weather) & California (still warm weather and the beach).
We spent 3 days with them exploring beaches, kayaking, eating fresh picked strawberries & going on a beautiful hike!
We also went to dinner at Cool Cats with them again.
At the end of our time in San Luis Obispo, we drove back to Palm Springs
where we spent our last day of the trip going to the local waterpark.
That was a great time and it was still really hot but slightly cooler than all the other days.
The next day we got back on a plane and flew home to PDX.
There were speed bumps along the way on this trip which made it more memorable and overall, we had a really fun time!
Especially getting to see our sweet friends♥
