kalaloch camping trip olympic peninsula

our first camping trip of the year and it was so needed!
i woke up friday morning and decided we were going on an adventure that weekend
so jesse got off work, we packed the car and hopped on the ferry!

the best way to start a ferry ride.
beer + spongebob squarepants popsicle:

mt. st. helens

getting off the ferry we began making our way west to the beach

we made it to kalaloch campground around 10pm.
being that it was the first weekendin april, i was thinking:
"there is no way we will need a reservation...."
famous last words.

of course, when we got there the campground was full.
we drove down the road to check out the other closest place but it was closed for the season still.
soooooo, we ended up parking in the day use area at kalaloch campground and hiking into one of the
camp sites that was technically still closed for the season.

it was also our first time setting up the new tent we got at christmas time
which was not easy lol

it is a huge 6 person tent compared to our other 2 person tent
having never set it up before and it being dark -- we had some good laughs
starting with finding a raccoon on top of our bags right next to us.
the raccoon's eyes scared me half to death
then we busted up laughing cause the little guy was just curious :)

"uhhh hey mom, are you gonna get up??"
"why yes buddy, because waking up at 6am was just my plan"
;)

being it was dark when we showed up, we had no idea what the view would be when we woke.
this being it, we were pleasantly surprised!

we used the day use area to make lunches for the day

-coffee-
priorities

walking the beach

we found this awesome tree right down the beach from where we camped

"a tree with strong roots, laughs at storms"

before leaving to explore the area, we set up camp in an actual camp site that morning

our first stop was a big oak tree down some gravel road

driving into the hoh rain forest

hall of mosses trail

after the rain forest, we drove to la push beach aka twilight zone :)

this whole town makes most of their money off of the tourism

second beach, la push

on our way back to our campground, we drove through forks- another twilight famous town

back at camp that evening we relaxed in the hammock before making dinner

hammock cuddles

we set on the edge of the cliff above the beach to watch the sun set that evening

there was a beautiful sunset that night

nothing better in the world at that moment then sitting around
the camp fire with my handsome love

i woke up early that morning before jesse so i went to the cliff edge and wrote in my journal
another fave of mine while adventuring!

when jesse got up he walked down to the beach with buddy

my loves

although it was sunday, we were totally not ready to go back home
being outside like this feels more like home than our apartment does sometimes

our famous breakfast
we made this on our first roadtrip together and it has stuck as an easy quick & healthy breakfast

back on the road to head home
buddy LOVES the new subaru and all the space he has in it!

crescent lake, wa

we stopped in port angeles for some coffee and to eat our lunch

it's little moments like these that i'll cherish forever
these weekends are what i live for

waiting to board the ferry at kingston
