Today, we decided to get a puppy!!!!!
Well, we didn't JUST decide. We've been talking about it for a while now. Nothing very serious. Just the occasional "a puppy would be fun to have" & "Buddy needs a friend" type of comments. We have by no means been on the hunt for one, but today it all just came together with little to no effort.
I had my eye on this girl since last Thursday but didn't think anything would come of it, as I wasn't exactly pursuing anything. Fast forward 4 days, a few conversations and a few texts later and we have our selves a puppy! Almost that is. We are heading to Cheney, Washington early tomorrow morning to pick her up!
We haven't told anyone yet and I am about to burst at the seems with excitement!! I can barely contain myself!
I am making a puppy "needs" list right now:
Healthy puppy food
Dog Bed
Treats
Potty Pads
Tarp
Blanket
Chew Toys
Deodorizer cleaner--> Hoping to potty train very quickly and need this very little!
Leash
Collar
Doggy tag
Doggy tag
Dog Bowl
Picture Frame--> to add to my doggy wall ♥
Puppy play pen--> Jesse is going to build a play pen to use while we potty train her and teach her good habits
Puppy gate--> to put upstairs in my office so I can keep an eye on her while at work
We need a name still! Jesse and I have been brainstorming all day and can't find one we absolutely love yet! It will come though...
We are now off to the store to shop for our newest baby girl! ♥

It is 3:30am and with coffee in hand we are on the road heading for Cheney, Washington! My heart is racing; I can't wait to squeeze my new puppy and give her all the love in the world!
We made it to Cheney and I have her sitting in my lap right now ♥ She is the sweetest, cutest little fur ball I have ever laid my eyes on before! My heart can't take it!! ♥♥♥
With the snow conditions we now have a 6 hour drive to get back home. She is sleeping on her blanket at my feet. Here's to hoping she does great in the car! :) Jesse said it will be a good test with as much road trips/driving as we do!

We named our little princess, Kenai with the nickname "monster" ;) As of today, we have had Kenai for 12 days and all 12 days have been SO MUCH FUN! I grew up with dogs and puppies and I have my own fur baby Buddy, but I adopted him at 2 years of age so I have never had my own 7.5 weeks old puppy to care for. So many people said puppies are HARD so going into this chapter of our lives I was a little nervous for what kind of puppy we would end up with but truthfully it hasn't been very hard at all! It's taken a lot of time and attention away from my "normal" daily to-do's and a little time away from work but other then that it has been a blast! We are now on a schedule and I'm back to working with no problem!
She has learned her name and comes (most of the time) when called. She is very good about going potty outside already. We have to watch her still but she has started sitting at the back door and whining till we let her out. If the door is open already, she will go out there by herself to go potty then come back inside.
She is sitting on command. And if we have a treat in our hand, we don't even have to use the command. She just knows that sitting gets her treats :) She is definitely teething but she has yet to destroy anything. She sticks with chewing on her toys for the most part.
We are still working on bite inhibition. Which from what I have read, we will continue to work on that for the next few months. She only bites when she is excited and playing but she doesn't know how hard she is biting down yet so we are continuing to work with her on that.
As for the car ride home, she did better than I could have guessed! She didn't make one mess in the car, and she didn't whine at all. She slept most of the time and played with a toy the other part of the time. She does fantastic in the car!
We take Buddy everywhere with us. He has a bed in the back of the car and he would rather sleep back there then get left home alone so with getting a puppy, I would say this is what I was most nervous about. I didn't know what we would do if she hated the car or didn't do very well in it. We have taken them both with us the past 12 days of having her and she just sleeps while we are gone. It was kind of a gamble leaving her in there the first time, as to weather we would find the inside chewed up or not when we got back. But we took our chances and got a win out of that one! ♥
We will begin tethering her this week to get her used to the leash as well as work on other commands such as lay down and shake.
I was worried that Buddy wouldn't be thrilled with having a new little sister in the house; and at first, he most definitely was not lol but I think he has finally realized and accepted that she's here to stay so he has warmed up to her. Watching them play melts my heart! I'm so thankful that he can help train her too! I've really got to get his growl down ;) She listens to him so much better than she does Jesse or I when she is biting too hard..
All in all, she is the most perfect little puppy that I could have ever asked for joining our "pack"! She is growing so fast! We can't wait to see what she looks like as an adult dog! Adventures this summer are going to be the absolute BEST!
Kenai's First Bath:
We wanted to make this a GREAT experience for her so that she loves baths in her future but I'm not sure she thought it was so great haha! We gave her treats in the end though so I think we'll be okay!

The last half of the drive was BEAUTIFUL open & snowy roads. |
10 miles away from picking her up. Cheney was a super small town in the middle of no where! |

W After picking her up, we pulled over in a grassy park area to let her and Buddy meet for longer than a quick second and to go potty.
Buddy giving Kenai kisses ♥ |
Poor little girl was freezing as it was below 20 degrees out so we got her back in the warm car, wrapped her in her blanket and headed home. |
