Spontaneity at its best

The phone went off at 8pm on Christmas Eve. It was Charles, Jesse's cousin from Petersburg, Alaska asking if we were home in washington. He was bringing his family to Seattle to visit Aunt Barb on December 27th and wanted to see if we could visit too. However, Jesse and I were in Oregon visiting our family for Christmas and were not planning on going back to Washington until January 1st.

Fast forward 2 days, we are relaxing at my parents house on the couch when we saw a video on Instagram we are tagged in of Jeremy, Adriana and their kids (all cousins) at Jesse's parents house in Eugene. They were passing through on their way to Federal Way, Washington. When Jesse heard both Charles and Jeremy were going to be at Aunt Barbs he got this crazy idea at 10pm Monday December 26th to make a day trip to Seattle to surprise everyone.

We talked it over, figured out timing details from Aunt Barb and packed our bags!!

We are on I5 heading North right now as I write this, 200 miles away and no one knows we are coming. Jesse hasn't seen these cousins in 10+ years and is so excited. To make things even better, I haven't met any of them in person ever! I have heard nothing but awesome, crazy stories of the boys, and their wives sound like a couple of the sweetest girls around. I can't wait to meet everyone! So here's to a spontaneous road trip with my hubby and to meeting new family members. 3.5 hours to go!!

Fast forward a couple weeks...

When we got there, we walked right inside and everyone was standing in the entry way. Charles and his family had just arrived from the airport. Jesse walked in first and the look on Jeremy's face when he saw him was priceless! Haha! Everyone was so excited! We hugged and talked and spent hours catching up. It was such a wonderful time! Meeting all of them was a highlight in my holiday season!
